Raising Chickens
Posted on | March 27, 2011 | No Comments
We know that raising chickens is not exactly a bouncy house topic but it is something that is fun for children. Raising chickens is educational and can give children and teenagers a different perspective on life. From what we can tell, the world is moving very quickly with technology, computers, cell phones, and tons of hand held devices that consume people these days.
We have also noticed more difficult times for people. Many bouncy house and party places are going out of business. People are limiting the way they spend money. Honestly, there aren’t many more economical and cost effective things to do than raise chickens. Chickens are some of the most efficient animals on the planet. They eat just about anything and a good egg producing hen will produce about 300 eggs per year. Did you know there are places that will ship baby chicks right to your house? There are resources on line to buy chicken coop plans and informational guides to help you build a chicken coop.
Some cities and towns do not allow people to raise chickens. I know it’s against the Plano city laws. We do know that different places in the country are reconsidering these rules. It wasn’t too long ago that the town of Ann Arbor, Michigan just relaxed their rules on raising chickens. They now allow people to raise four hens right in their backyard! If you have good egg producers, that’s 1200 eggs a year! The marketplace has certainly picked up on these trends. Take a look at the below pictures of chicken coop styles. They were certainly designed for the backyard chicken farmer!

Halloween Time
Posted on | August 17, 2010 | No Comments
Well, technically, I suppose it is a little early to be thinking about Halloween. Let’s face it. It is hot outside in Texas right now! It was 110F with the heat index today… very, very hot! So, with the kids playing inside most of the day, they started thinking about the next big holiday. Now, that holiday is not Labor Day. They’re just toddles and Labor Day doesn’t mean much. To them, it’s just another day that Mom and Dad stay home… but they’re not sure why.
However, they do remember the Halloween Costumes from the past years. Our son dressed up as a monkey 2 years ago and he still remembers all of the noises. It’s funny to see him jump up and down acting like a monkey. Of course, that’s one of his “cute card” tactics. He really does have a strong will. Wow.
Anyway, last year we used a couple of websites for ideas: Homemade Costumes and Group Halloween Costume Ideas. These websites have a ton of ideas and some pictures. When we were looking for ideas, we noticed “The Flintstones” as an idea for a group family costume. We looked up some of the costumes to get a good feel for what was out there… and my wife purchase the Fred Costume for me. I won’t be posting that here!!! direct. The Flintstones are one of the most popular ideas for families with a boy and a girl… or two families where one has a baby girl and one has a baby boy. There are several other fun family ideas… just click through and check them out… it looks like they’re still loading several of the ideas… but they’ve got enough listed to get you thinking! Let us know what you are planning for Halloween. Even though it is still a few months out, this is the time to do some brain storming. It will be here before you know it!!!

About Us

We’re just a local family in the Dallas Area. We want to have fun with our children and take advantage of everything the area has to offer. There are many parks and recreation centers. Even though our children are toddlers now, we know they will get older (as we all do) and our activities will change. They’ll like different things. We want to get a head start on finding some of those great activities. Where are the best fishing spots? Where are the most fun locations for education? Are there any historical landmarks with guided tours? We have a lot of questions! This hybrid website/blog allows us to document our findings, update them, interact with the local community and learn more about the neighborhood!
Our Basic Goals
Posted on | April 8, 2010 | No Comments
Our goals are simple. We have been to Boomerang’s Party and Play as well as many other fun children’s places in the Dallas-Fortworth area. We want to keep reviewing fun places and bringing them to you. We’re parents with young children and we want to find fun, safe and educational activities for our children. As we do that, we’ll share them with you. We’ve always appreciated being able to look up reviews on the internet and we have decided to share our experiences with you.
In many cases, we’ll just state the facts. We know there are all kinds of interests out there and we know that everyone likes different things. We also opened up the blog because we want people to share what’s out there. We know that many advertisers crawl the internet looking for places to promote their products. If you write us detailed information about your business, business philosophy and some pictures, we’ll be glad to post them. We want to learn about as many local activities as possible whether they’re everyday activities or seasonal events, we’re looking for fun, safe and educational!
Who’s Boomer?

Oh, just consider Boomer second cousin to Harvey the Rabbit. He’s here today and gone tomorrow. He’s fun loving and advocating for children everywhere.
Boomers gang is just the friends and family that surround him, give him ideas and help him communicate to you!
Meet the Gang

Who’s bringing you this website?
Well, it’s a local family that just wants to document a few ideas about children’s fun times. We haven’t found a one stop shop for great places to take children and we wanted to starting building a list through blogging. There are so many activities and they can be fun!
We want to try out the activities, discuss them with our friends and bring a collective unbiased opinion to you. Having kids is such a crazy experience. It’s a blessing, a trial of patience, sleepless nights, laughter, frustration, unconditional love and unpredictable moments.
It’s really taught us to live in the moment a little more… we know that our toddlers do… and it’s a lot easier to connect with them when we’re not paying the bills or calculating spread sheets in our mind while we’re interacting with them. They always know when they have your undivided attention. It’s truly amazing how much they notice.
Anyway, the gang is just another family trying to live, love and laugh… just like many others.
Rules to Play By

Look, we just want to talk psychology here a little bit. Your kids are going to be excited when you take them out. Whether it’s the zoo, six flags or Chuck-E-Cheese, your children are going to be excited. We recommend using that excitement to set some rules for them. Let them know that they are going to a public place and take the opportunity to teach them to be courteous of others. Certainly, we don’t want you to overshadow the whole trip with doom and gloom. That would defeat the purpose of having fun. However, it is a good time to do that hard job of being a parent and teaching your children good conduct habits in a social public atmosphere. You’ve earned some brownie points so don’t be afraid to use a few in exchange for good behavior!
