Designing the perfect place for everyone is not easy. You have to consider that these childrens play rooms get really busy on the weekends. Some people want to take their children on a whim while many others want to accommodate a large group for a birthday party. These bouncy house places may seem like fun and games but you can be sure that they’re a business like everyone else. They need to get more revenue coming in the door to keep the lights on. This is why the design phase must include a way to capture the large groups and the walk-in customers at the same time. Many places have the main play area in the center while staging private rooms in the back and to the sides of the main play area. It’s very effective and essential when you consider that these establishments have about 20 hours a week of prime time action that must generate enough revenue to maintain profitability. It’s that exact challenge that has brought the newer model of Little Gym and Gymboree. They’re making a weekday “class” out of play time. Afterall, it’s exercise, right? These models have found a way to capture the weekday market. They hold a subscription or membership model where children are signed up for a certain number of classes. They pitch socialization and exercise as prime selling points. It’s all valid and seems to be working in many areas. I think the next step is to create a hybrid model where the gym is incorporated into the fun bouncy house scene and the classes become adventures. It could be the next Boomerangs!
